"The Texas Panhandler" is the 199th episode of the FOX animated television series "King of the Hill".

Plot

Pretty girl Amy snubs Bobby and Joseph by refusing to give them invitations to her party. The pair decide that the reason for their uncoolness is because they do not have the fashionable pants that everyone else is wearing, but Hank refuses to buy them, telling Bobby that if he had a job and his own money he could wear whatever he pleased. Bobby and Joseph try their hand at a real job, but after being ridiculed by the cool kids, they encounter a group of college age panhandlers, who have displaced the mentally disturbed veteran Spongy from his corner. The group hangs on the corner begging for change while enjoying a carefree lifestyle, and Bobby and Joseph soon begin to emulate them.

In addition to the money, the mystique increases their popularity at school, netting them invitations to Amy's party. However Hank catches Bobby and forces him to return the money, which the college kids' leader convinces him to give to them. Soon after, Bobby is asked on a date, but panics since he has no money and asks for it back, only to be snubbed by the bums. Hank hears that Bobby is back on the street corner, and goes to give him another lecture, but finds that he has gone back to his regular job to earn the money for his date. A frustrated Bobby tells the passersby not to give money to the spoiled and undeserving kids, and Hank backs him up, driving them from the block. Finally Spongy gets back his spot, which he had since "Ronald Reagan kicked me out of my mental hospital".
