George Lanyon Hacker

George Lanyon Hacker was the sixth Suffragan Bishop of Penrith in the modern era [ Who’s Who 1992 (London, A & C Black, 1991 ISBN 0713635142] . Born on 27 April 1928 and educated at Kelly College, Tavistock ["Kelly College –Bishop of Penrith to preach at Founders Service" The Times Monday, Apr 19, 1982; pg. 10; Issue 61211; col C] and Exeter College, Oxford, he was ordained after a period of study at Ripon College Cuddesdon in 1955 [Debrett's People of Today: Ed Ellis,P (1992, London, Debrett's) p 846 ISBN 1870520092)] . He began his career with a curacy at St Mary Redcliffe [ [http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/A2A/records.aspx?cat=002-pstmr&cid=-1&Gsm=2008-06-18 National Archive details] ] before spells as Chaplain at King's College London, Perpetual curate at the "Church of the Good Shepherd", Bishopwearmouth and Rector of Tilehurst In 1979 he ascended to the Episcopate, a post he held for 15 years.
