Thomas C. Mann (
Laredo, Texas ,November 11 ,1912 – 1999) was a diplomat who specializing inLatin America n affairs, worked for theU.S. Department of State from 1942 to 1966. During the first administration ofDwight D. Eisenhower he served in a variety of posts, including two years as Ambassador toEl Salvador . In late September 1957 Mann moved toWashington, DC , to become Assistant Secretary of State for Economic Affairs. In August 1960 he became Assistant Secretary of State for Inter-American Affairs where he remained until the end of the administration. PresidentJohn F. Kennedy appointed MannAmbassador toMexico where he successfully negotiated a settlement of a boundary dispute between Mexico and the U.S. He later served inPanama during a period of intense anti-U.S. agitation. He resigned from the State Department in 1966 to return to private life.Career
