- Pedro Agustín Girón
Pedro Agustín Girón (1778 - 1842) was a Spanish military officer and
politician .Born in
San Sebastián in 1778 he was an official of theGuardia Real and participated in theCampaign of the Rosellón and inWar of Independence . He participated in theBattle of Bailén against Napoleonic troops atTudela ,Uclés ,Albuera andVélez .A moderate liberal in the political plain, after the liberal revolution of 1820, he was named Minister of the War of the Government under
Evaristo Perez de Castro . However he resigned in just a few months because of the opposition of the more radical liberal sector.In 1832, in the last years of the reign of
Fernando VII , he was designated Commander in chief ofGranada . The following year he was bestowed the titleDuque de Ahumada . In 1835 he was named Minister of the War again, but was forced to resign after being accused ofnepotism . During the last few years of his life he sepnt many years abroad and travelled, and dedicating his time to study and writing. His memoirs "Memories 1778-1837" offers an insight into his life.He died in 1842.
