Background

In reference to the song, Tomas Kalnoky writes;

One of the oldest as well as one of the newest songs on the record, in that it was written piece by piece, over the course of about ten years. I distinctly remember sitting in only my boxers, on the floor of my dorm room at Rutgers, strumming my acoustic and quietly singing the melody that now opens this very record. The chorus came to be as we were laying down the drums and bass. We were up to the part in the song that should've been a chorus, but I had nothing. Fortunately, that night, in the 11th hour, while Chris and Pete slept on the floor of the studio, the chorus fell into my lap. Upon singing the first line to them the following morning, I thought to myself "And we probably will, for better or for worse.."
