The World Policy Institute (WPI) is a nonpartisan public policy research center based in New York City. According to its mission statement, the WPI "focuses on complex challenges that demand cooperative policy solutions to achieve: an inclusive and sustainable global market economy, engaged global civic participation and effective governance, and collaborative approaches to national and global security." The WPI's website describes its ongoing research programs. These include the Citizenship and Security Program [http://www.citizenshipandsecurity.org/] , which attempts to find a middle ground in the "security vs liberty" debate; the Global Democracy and Human Rights project [http://www.worldpolicy.org/projects/globalrights/] , which explores ways to "expand democratic institutions and the rule of law to regional and global levels [ [http://www.worldpolicy.org/projects/globalrights/ global democracy and human rights project] ] ," and the Counter-Terrorism Project [http://www.worldpolicy.org/projects/terrorism/index.html] . The Institute's past work on the arms trade has often been cited in the "New York Times". Additionally, the WPI hosts public and private events, publishes the quarterly "World Policy Journal," and recently launched the World Policy Blog [http://worldpolicy.org/wordpress/] .

Originally founded in 1948 as the "Association for Education in World Government," the WPI adopted its current name in 1982. It was part of the New School from 1991 to 2007, when it became independent [http://www.worldpolicy.org/wpi/final%20WPI-New%20School%20release.pdf] and established a "strategic partnership" with Demos.
