Paul Kastel

Paul Kastel was a German-Canadian arts benefactor, art historian, and owner of Montreal's notable Kastel Gallery (in French, Galerie Kastel). He sold his first work in 1950 - an A.Y. Jackson - for $250. [Art Digest Daily, April 3rd, 2006]

Kastel was instrumental in promoting numerous Canadian artists that he represented from the 1950’s until his retirement in 2006. Paul Kastel and his partner Anthony Nevin encouraged many young artists by purchasing works and establishing the historically significant Kastel Gallery in the heart of Montreal, Canada. The Gallery closed in 2006.
