- King's choice
The King's Choice, also referred to as the "Lord's Pick" is used to describe the family arrangement of having a son and a daughter as the first two children born. This is used to describe a favorable situation or "best of both world's" in parenting. In Eastern cultures this combination of children is believed to provide a perfect balance of Yin and Yang.
The highest, or most desirable of this arrangement is boy and girl twins, this situation also incurs the title the "Emperor's Elective". Further permutations of this arrangement rank in this order: 1. boy then girl 2. girl then boy 3. twins boy and girl.
"Lower Courts" of the King's Choice involve having additional children before achieving the kings choice such as boy, boy, then girl, or girl, girl, then boy, and so forth.
This term was coined by a New Jersey legend, and a holder of the King's Choice.
The origins of this phrase also trace back to an ancient Japanese proverb; "Ichi
hime ni taro," which means, "First baby, a girl. Second baby, a boy." This phrase is used in Japanese culture to describe the ideal family.
