Harry Otto Fischer (1910-1986) was an American
science fiction fan best known for helping his college friendFritz Leiber create the imaginry world ofNehwon . In 1937, Fischer and Leiber designed a board game set in this fantasy world and collaborated on a novel with the same setting, "The Adventure of the Grain Ships", featuring a barbarian named Fafhrd, loosely based on Leiber, and a thief named The Gray Mouser, loosely based on Fischer.1939 saw the first professional publication of a story by Leiber, "Two Sought Adventure", in Unknown magazine. This and most subsequent stories in the popular
Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser series were set in the fantasy world Leiber and Fischer created."The Adventure of the Grain Ships" was not published until 1964, when it appeared in
Fantastic (magazine) under the title "The Lords of Quarmall". Harry Otto Fischer wrote the first 10,000 words.Reference:
