Audiotube is a music community website where users can view, share and watch music videos. Founded in December 2006 by Karsten Becker and Scott de Mercado, it has offices in both London and southern Spain. Audiotube is backed by music and media entrepreneur Chris Blackwell who launched both U2 and Bob Marley under his label Island Records; and the entertainer and industrialist Michael Flatley.

Audiotube focuses on working with Indie Labels and Artists to assist them in marketing and promoting their music online. Visitors can use the site to build playlists tailored to their individual taste, stream music videos of their favourites artists, find new music; as well as interact with like-minded people and access the latest music releases.

Technology

Audiotube focused on developing its online community and media streaming services, which are based on the LAMP architecture and were built on top of video management software from HumorSoftware (now [http://videocore.com Videocore] ) and social networking software from SocialEngine.

Audiotube later acquired key technology components for a project called VBox from Benchmark backed Editopia (now [http://cinefx.org CineFX] ) that it uses to roll out a online media management service for Indie record labels at [http://my.audiotube.com my.audiotube.com] (currently in beta).

Audiotube is also developing a cross platform, high-definition desktop based video player, built using the open source media toolkit the [http://openlibraries.org openlibraries] , which will be the core of its online p2p network, [http://audiotube.tv audiotube.tv]
