SynCore

In the computer games Symbiocom and Zero Critical, Istvan Pely starts out with the premise that artificial models of brain and mind can and will work.

SynCore is a computer technology and consulting corporation which manufactured and sold a series of learning machines. The company began by creating the thinking computers -- notebook size the kind used by the scientists and military.

It later branched out with a new technology called the "sym implant" (synthetic symbiont), which essentially duplicated the power of their thinking computers.

Once sym is implanted to the brain, it provide cognitive enhancement for all kinds of complex scientific formulae, mathematical arithmetic, etc. It also offers commentary and advice to its host.

If the host dies, the sym will continue to function indefinitely until the host's body is cremated.

This technology was pioneered by Prof. Norma Miller and Doctor Gregg.

In ZC, most of the staff working in the facility have sym implants except for Magus and Victoria Fayn. Dr. Vilken and Myna both had their implants removed following the events of Zero Critical and the controversy.
