New York State politician and newspaper publisher/editor. He was also the father of U.S. Vice PresidentJames Schoolcraft Sherman .Richard Sherman was:

He married his distant cousin Mary Frances Sherman. They hadsix children:

*Mary Louise, wife of Henry J. Cookingham (a law partner of James Schoolcraft Sherman)
