Lee M. Thompson

Chaplain, Colonel (Ret) Lee M. Thompson served the United States Air Force and United States Army for over 34 years. His final military assignment was to the National Security Agency, Fort Meade, Maryland. Lee is an ordained minister with the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and is currently serving as the Chief of Voluntary and Pastoral Care Service for the Veterans Health Administration in Eastern Colorado. He makes his home is Castle Rock, Colorado and has pastoral duties at the Denver VA Medical Center.

Chaplain Thompson served as an enlisted artillaryman in the United States Army from 1968-1969, serving one tour of duty in South Vietnam. He was commissioned a chaplain in the United States Air Force in 1979. He has served as a Protestant Chaplain, a Senior Protestant Chaplain, and a Wing Chaplain. He has served as Director of Plans, Programs, and Personnel, Office of the Command Chaplain, Air Force Space Command. He has also served as Director of Plans and Professional Development, Office of the Command Chaplain, Air Combat Command. His later assignments included Command Chaplain, Headquarters United States Special Operations Command, MacDill Air Force Base, FL. And Wing Chaplain, Ramstein AB, GE. During his career, Chaplain Thompson served in the Vietnam conflict, Operation Desert Storm, Bosnia and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Chaplain Thompson and his wife Mali have three children: Erik, Christian, and Mali Beth. Both Lee and Mali were born and raised in Minnesota. Lee is the son of Dr. George Thompson, long time professor at Crown College and pastor in the Northwestern District. Lee attended Crown College where he received his Bachelor of Arts (Philosophy) in 1973. He received his Master of Divinity (Philosophy of Religion) from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Ft Worth, TX in 1976.

Chaplain Thompson is a highly decorated warrior with over 30 medals and ribbons. His major awards and decorations include Bronze Star with “V”, Joint Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with six oak leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal with “V”, Joint Meritorious Unit Award and Army Valorous Unit Award.
