Polidocanol is a
sclerosant , anirritant injected to treatvaricose veins . Polidocanol causesfibrosis inside varicose veins, occluding the lumen of the vessel, and reducing the appearance of the varicosity.It is not approved for use in the US.Fact|date=July 2008 (Note: This is not confirmed, as use in the U.S. for sclerotherapy as recently as August 5, 2008 is documented.)Current research is involved in development of Polidocanol as a topical therapy, where systemic safety might no longer be an issue.Systemic Polidocanol is sold outside the US under the brand name Aethoxysklerol.Polidocanol treatment is currently being used inside of the U.S.Fact|date=July 2008
