Gilbert Godsmark (b. January 1877,
Derby ; d. February 1901) was an Englishassociation football er, who played as an inside forward for Newton Heath in 1900. Godsmark began his career at Ashford, and, on the recommendation of forwardBob Donaldson , became Newton Heath's first signing for which a fee had to be paid when he joined the club for £40 in January 1900. However, his stay at Newton Heath was curtailed by a call-up to theBritish Army three months later, after just nine league appearances and four goals. With the Army, Godsmark served in theSecond Boer War . However, after just nine months inSouth Africa , Godsmark died from an unknown disease Fact|date=August 2008.References
