The River Why is an upcoming Matthew Leutwyler film set for a 2009 release. The film is an adaptation of the 1983 Sierra Club novel by David James Duncan. The film stars Zach Gilford in the lead role of Gus Orviston. The film has yet to have a release date.

Plot

The story centers on a young man named Gus Orviston (Zach Gilford) and his quest for an elusive rainbow trout, which is a metaphor for the man's internal search for self-knowledge.

Production

The film will be directed by Matthew Leutwyler in his first big screen film. In June 2008, actors William Hurt and Amber Heard joined the cast. Filming began in Portland, Oregon around July, 2008.
