Kizmeet

Kizmeet

Kizmeet is a site geared toward missed connections. The site is owned by Spark Networks plc, and allows users to find missed connections in their cities by specific location. “Kizmeet gives users the opportunity to reconnect with people” ["Social Website Kizmeet.com Launches New Website." 9 Feb. 2007. Asian Journal Publications. 1 Aug. 2008 .] whom they may have missed romantically, in business, or in general. Unlike other missed connection sites, such as Craigslist, users “can post a missed-connection message - or check if anyone posted one about you - by searching under the name of a specific bar, coffee shop, gym, grocery store or just about any other spot around a city” [Stevens, Heidi. "Dating Site Gives Fate a Hand." Chicago Tribune 25 Mar. 2007.] . Kizmeet is a significant example of how older internet concepts can be organized in a more communal Web 2.0 aspect. Users are allowed to post anonymously and only reveal their E-mail address when they reply to someone who has responded to them. The name of the site derives from combining the words “Kismet”, which is a predetermined fate, and the word “meet”.

Design

Kizmeet is a unique site in the missed connections community because it allows users to pinpoint where their missed connection took place. Currently the site is open to 17 major cities within the United States and Canada. Within each city are nine major categories which are: bars, clubs & dining, gyms, coffee shops, concerts & stadiums, outdoors, on the move, and miscellaneous. “In each category, you can drill down further (in the San Francisco Kizmeet, for example, the major beaches and parks are listed). Or you can search by keyword: cereal, jeans, and so on” [Needleman, Rafe. "Ships That Pass in The Night, Lit Up by Kizmeet." CNET. 27 Oct. 2006. 1 Aug. 2008 .] . Users also have the option of organizing posts by date they were posted or when the encounter occurred.

Reception

The design has caught the eye of the internet community and received favorable praise [H., J. "GIVE DESTINY A HAND: Kizmeet." Flavorpill NYC. 27 Feb. 2007. 8 Aug. 2008 .] . The jump of this format to the Web 2.0 world has been featured on the internet conscious G4 network [Pryze, Stephen. "Second Chances Courtesy of Kizmeet.com." G4 - The Feed. 24 Oct. 2006. 8 Aug. 2008 .] and of the the E! Entertainment Netowrk [Kahn, Brian. "The Daily Ten." The Daily Ten. E! 30 Oct. 2006.] . The popularity of the site has also reached Canada. Where the National Post noted the site's design "really ups the odds of finding the other person" [Roberts, Rob. "KIZ ME, YOU FOOL: CITY CONNECTIONS." Canada.com. 6 Feb. 2007.8 Aug. 2008 .] .
