Scotti Brothers Records

Scotti Brothers Records

Scotti Brothers Records (sometimes spelled Scotti Bros. Records) was a California-based record label founded by Tony and Ben Scotti. Their first success was releasing albums from teen pop star Leif Garrett. They later helped launch the careers of "Weird Al" Yankovic and Survivor. They also signed James Brown to a recording contract in the mid-1980s and the US act 'Flag' featuring Dave Cairns from Secret Affair & Archie Brown. Scotti Brothers went through a long line of distributors during the time it was in operation. Atlantic Records originally handled the label's distribution, then they moved to CBS Records in the early '80s. This partnership lasted until 1991, when they entered into an agreement with BMG. By 1996, they were back in the WEA distribution system.

The label, as well as the Scotti brothers themselves, ran an independent motion picture production company Scotti Bros. Pictures, and was associated with the television syndication company All American Television (which later became All American Communications after becoming involved in the production and distribution of "Baywatch"; some Scotti Bros. recording artists made occasional guest spots on the show) since the company's inception. After Pearson PLC purchased All American in 1997, the Scotti Brothers contracts and masters were sold to Zomba Records' Volcano Entertainment subsidiary; and in turn, all of Scotti Bros. clients were dropped with the lone exception of "Weird Al" Yankovic, who was switched to Volcano.
