K.I.A. of Krapoel in Axe (=Scum In Action) were the first and commercially most successful Flemish hip-hop group (originating from Aarschot, Belgium), that rapped in their own mother language: the Flemish dialect.

History

Krapoel in Axe arose around 1993 from the rapcrew "De Diversen". When Cliffke joined the group, the name was changed into Krapoel In Axe (or K.I.A.). After scoring some local undergroundhits they took part in Battle of the Bands, a talent contest where they were discovered by a delegate of ARS records. Shortly hereafter they were signed by ARS.

Their first ARS release (in 1997) was the single "Saturday" of which 30,000 copies were sold. They became frequent guests at "Tien om te zien", a music show of the commercial Television station VTM. Their next singles "1,2,3,4,5,6,7", "Zomer" and "'t Sniejewt" also became hits and of their debut album "Zonder Boe Of Ba" 15,000 copies were sold.

K.I.A. got more and more disapproval by the media because of their use of obscene language and the single "Siliconetette" (=Silicone Tits - 1998) was refused on most radiostations and on television. De Jakke left the group and the 2 remaining members disappeared from out of the spotlights.

In 2001, they released the single "Geanalizeerd" through EMI. An eye-catcher was the videoclip to this song, with Jean-Pierre Van Rossem as the anal examining Dr. Guy Vago. The master for their second full album was also recorded at EMI, but because of the explicit lyrics they were dropped by the label. EMI also asked a very high price for the master so no other recordlabel could buy and release the record. In 2002, they released their album "Ongecensureerd" (=Uncensored) through their own label Krapoelrecords. Shortly hereafter the group split, because of internal disagreements.
