Bruce E. Cain is the Heller Professor of Political Science at
UC Berkeley .Education
Cain graduated Summa Cum Laude from
Bowdoin College in 1970 and studied as aRhodes Scholar atTrinity College, Oxford . In 1976, he received his PHD in political science fromHarvard University .Career
Cain taught at the
California Institute of Technology from 1976 to 1989 before he began teaching at Berkeley. He has served as a polling consultant for state and senate races to Fairbank, Canapary and Maulin from 1985 to 86, a redistricting consultant to several government agencies, a consultant to the Los Angeles Times from 1986 to 89) and a political commentator for numerous radio and television stations in California. In March, 2000, he received theZale Award for Outstanding Achievement in Policy Research and Public Service in March, 2000, and in April, 2000, he was elected to the AmericanAcademy of Arts and Sciences .
