First Stage Children's Theater

The First Stage Children's Theater is a professional American children's theater based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Its season (September-June) consists of six mainstage plays and a touring production. [ First Stage-About us ] It was founded in 1987.

First Stage Is a nationally acclaimed theater, with annual audiences of more than 145,000. It is one of the five largest children's theaters in the nation. The 2007-2008 season of plays consists of "Hana's Suitcase", "The Quiltmaker's Gift", "12 days- A Milwaukee Christmas", "Sleeping Beauty", "The Watsons go to Birmingham", and "A Year with Frog and Toad". [ First Stage-Next Season ] It's performance venue is the Todd Wher Theater with the theater's headquarters in the MYAC.

History

The First Stage Children's Theater, founded in 1987, was originally named First Stage Milwaukee. [ Milwaukee Theater-First Stage Children's Theater] The young theater's first season (1987-1988) showed only 3 plays, "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn","Macbeth" and "The Sleeping Beauty." First Stage Theater Academy

The First Stage Theater Academy was founded in 1992 to teach life skills through stage skills. It is the teaching arm of the theater, and serves more than 2000 students annually. [ First Stage Children's Theater- Theater Academy ]
