"Somewhere Somehow" is a 1992 single from Christian music and pop music singer Michael W. Smith's album, "Change Your World". The song is a duet performed by Michael W. Smith and Amy Grant. The song was penned by four legendary songwriters: Smith and Grant themselves, along with David Foster and Wayne Kirkpatrick.

"Somewhere Somehow" is a slow love ballad, with the two speakers singing of their romantic longing for one another during a period when they cannot be together.

Background

Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith are the best-selling Contemporary Christian Music artists of all time. In 1991 and 1992, Grant had taken the mainstream pop world by storm with five chart-topping singles from her "Heart in Motion" album. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Michael W. Smith had achieved some minor but notable success on the mainstream pop charts as well. Both Grant and Smith had continued to release very successful Christian music singles during that time too. Though the two artists had worked together extensively before (Smith got his start as a member of Grant's band), a duet featuring both of them at that high point in their respective careers could have been expected to be a massive hit. While the song did receive some exposure, however, it did not catch on in the way that the artists' recent releases had. This may be because while Smith was still best known as a Christian music artist, the song's lyrics are entirely "secular", with no direct references to religion, faith, or Christianity whatsoever. The song's lyrics, therefore, did not line up with its ideal market. Nevertheless, the song has emerged as a favorite among fans of both Smith and Grant.

The song was Grant's third single during 1992 and her first outside of "Heart in Motion". To date, the song has never appeared on any Amy Grant album or compilation.
