Cecil Hook

Cecil Hook was the inaugural Bishop of Kingston-upon-Thames from 1905 to 1915. Born on 1 December 1844 into a clerical family [His father was the "Very Reverend Walter Farquhar Hook", sometime Dean of Chichester -“Who was Who” 1897-1990 London, A & C Black, 1991 ISBN 071363457X ] , he was educated at Radley and Christ Church, Oxford [ "University Intelligence. Ordained in 1868 he began his career with a curacy at "St John, Redland, Bristol" after which he was appointed Rector of " All Saints, Chichester". [During which time he married "Edith Turner" of Rusholme] Appointed Rural Dean of Oswestry in 1891 [The Times, Wednesday, Jun 10, 1891; pg. 7; Issue 33347; col B "New Rural Dean (Diocese of St Asaph)"] and then Leamington in 1896, he was one of three Suffragans appointed in 1904 to assist the Bishop of Southwark.
