CherryPal

CherryPal

CherryPal is an announced PowerPC-processor-based computer utilizing the Freescale 5121e system-on-a-chip (SoC) integrated main-board. According to its producers, it is to use Firefox not only as its web-browser but additionally as its user-interface for launching other applications such as OpenOffice.org. CherryPal is from a new company that, being new, does not have a track record. An article in The Register includes the comment "we still haven't seen a working unit with our own eyes," going on to note that CherryPal's producers also assert that the computer will consume only 2 watts of power and support iTunes, both unusual claims. However the Register article does not refute the claims. As of October 3, 2008 the unit still has not shipped. An announcement at their website speaks of the delay in general terms.

The computer will make use of Cloud computing in which applications and storage will be wholly or in part Internet-based.
