Born in
Dauzaman , inAriège , on2 April 1846 , he was son of an organist ofPézenas and was formed as an organist bySaint-Saens , at the schoolNiedermeyer .After some time passed as an organist and a piano teacher in
Saint-Etienne , he became professor of superior piano at the Conservatoire deLyon (1883) and organist atGrand Temple des Brotteaux (1844) after personal invitation of pastor Joseph Merkelin, at the same time thatSaint-Saens was consulted for the purchase of the new organ. Called in Paris in 1888 as an artistic advisor of maisonErard , he became organist ofSaint-Séverin (1889) at the new instrument rebuilt by John Abbey, and then organist inSaint-Eustache in 1905 and 1906. In 1910 he was named director of the schoolNiedermeyer .Autor of a big production for piano, organ, orchestra and voice he retired in 1914 in
Tain-l'Hermitage , where he died (age 91) in28 August 1936 . Probably following the example of his teacher and friendSaint-Saens , he lived in Algery.Work

Recognized as a great improviser, searching more the colors than the effects of genre, preferring delicateness, he had a perfect and elegant style in his compositions, that makes his music agreeable and easy."Distinguée" and refined, his works can fit as well in concerts as in the Liturgy. His music airy without hurting, as the memory of elegance, culture and intelligence that this organist left us.
