Alyssa Erin Beckerman (born
January 23 ,1981 inLong Branch, New Jersey ) is an Americangymnast and student.Beckerman was a member of the United States National Gymnastics Team from 1997 to 2000. Her highest honor was making the 1999
World Gymnastics Championships although she was unable to compete due to a wrist injury. She was named an alternate member of the 2000 US Olympic team, but was unable to compete becauseTasha Schwikert (the other alternate member) was instead selected in place of an injuredMorgan White . Beckerman competed on theUniversity of California, Los Angeles (UCLA ) intercollegiate gymnastics team from 2001 to 2003.Beckerman is best known for her exquisite, clean gymnastics, impeccably long and smooth legs, and her tremendous dance ability. While not a very powerful gymnast, her floor exercise routines were dramatic and well-received by judges. Beckerman's ability to pirouette was largely unmatched by other American gymnasts. Her triple pirouette on the floor exercise was well performed, as well as her pirouette with leg horizontal to the floor on the balance beam.
Beckerman's strongest events were the uneven bars and the balance beam.
