Timothy K. Lewis (born 1954 in
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania ), is a former federal judge on theUnited States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and is currently an attorney at thelaw firm ofSchnader, Harrison, Segal & Lewis .Early career
Lewis graduated from
Tufts University with aB.A. in 1976 and fromDuquesne University School of Law with aJuris Doctor in 1980. He worked as assistantdistrict attorney forAllegheny County, Pennsylvania , from 1980 to 1983 and as AssistantU.S. attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania from 1983 to 1991.Nomination to the bench
Lewis' judicial career began on April 25, 1991 when President
George H.W. Bush nominated him to the bench of theUnited States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania , to fill the vacancy left byPaul A. Simmons . He was confirmed by the Senate on June 14, 1991, and received commission on June 18, 1991.President Bush chose to elevate Lewis again when he nominated him for a newly-created seat on the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit on September 17, 1992. He was confirmed to this seat by the Senate on October 8, 1992, and received commission on October 9, 1992. He resigned his seat on June 30, 1999, and has since worked at Schnader, Harrison, Segal & Lewis, providing counsel on appellate matters.
