The United States sent a delegation to compete at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing, China. U.S. competitors took part in 18 sports; the only two sports Americans did not compete in were football 5-a-side and 7-a-side.

On the swimming team was Melissa Stockwell, a former United States Army officer who lost her left leg to a roadside bomb in the Iraq War. She competed in the 100 meter butterfly, 100 meter freestyle, and 400 meter freestyle events. The American wheelchair tennis team consists of nine players. Lee Hinson, Paul Moran, Jon Rydberg, and Steve Welch will compete in the men's events, Beth Arnoult and Kaitlyn Verfuerth will compete in the women's events, and Brent Poppen, Nick Taylor, and David Wagner will compete in the mixed quadriplegic events. Taylor and Wagner took gold in the 2004 mixed doubles event, and Wagner also took silver in mixed singles that year. The tennis team is coached by Dan James, with Jason Hartnett as assistant coach, David Schobel as team leader, and Bill Taylor as the personal care assistant.
