Douglas Texter (born December 6, 1967) is an American author of satirical and fiction novels, short stories, and essays. His most recent short story, "Primetime", was published in The Writers of the Future Anthology volume 23 in September 2007.

Biography

Douglas Texter was born December 6, 1967 in Erie. After attending Cathedral Preparatory School, Texter graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in English in 1992. Texter then worked as a production editor at W.B. Saunders Company in Philadelphia. In 1997, Texter earned his MA in English from Villanova University. Then Texter attended the Radcliffe Publishing Course in Cambridge, MA. and worked as a college textbook editor at Houghton Mifflin in Boston, MA. Texter is currently finishing his Ph.D. in English from the University of Minnesota.

Writing career

Texter began writing fiction, satire and essays in 2000. After his first short story was accepted for publication in The Urban Bizarre (edited by Nick Mamatas), Texter attended the Clarion Science Fiction Writers Workshop in 2003, the Viable Paradise Writers Workhop in 2005, and the Robert McKee Story Seminar 2007. In 2006, Texter won the Writers of the Future Contest.

Themes

Much of Texter’s work deals with social, political, and economic themes. Both his fiction and his scholarly work explore the ramifications of reality television. He does not own a television set.
