HMCS St. Croix (DDE 256)

HMCS "St. Croix" (DDE 256) was a sclass|Restigouche|destroyer|1 that served in the Royal Canadian Navy and later the Canadian Forces from 1958-1974.

She was the fourth ship in her class and the second vessel to carry the designation HMCS|St. Croix.

"St. Croix" was laid down on 15 October 1954 at Marine Industries Ltd., Sorel and launched on 17 November 1956. She was officially commissioned into the RCN on 4 October 1958 and carried the pennant number 256 as a destroyer escort.

"St. Croix" was selected by the RCN for the Improved Restigouche (IRE) project and was the first vessel in her class to complete this refit on 21 November 1964.

She was decommissioned from active service in the CF on 15 November 1974 as a result of personnel shortages. She was placed in category C reserve and her weapons and propellers were removed while her machinery spaces were used as engineering classrooms while alongside at CFB Halifax.

She was scrapped in 1991.
