Alexander Dabravolski

Alexander Alherdavich Dabravolski ( _be. Алякс́андр Альѓертавіч Дабрав́ольскi) (born November 23 1958) is a Belarusian politician.

Director of East European School of Political Studies. Member of Political Council of the United Civil Party, Belarus Lawyer, radio physicist.

Life and career

In 1982 graduated from Radio Physical Department, in 1995 – Department of Law of Belarusian State University.

Worked as an engineer-designer (1982 – 1989), lawyer-consultant, scientific fellow, Deputy Director of the Independent Institute of Socio-Economic and Political Studies (1992 – 1995), Vice-Chairman of United Civil Party (1995 – 2006).

In 1989 on Minsk territorial district was elected as MP (Supreme Council) of USSR.

Worked in Committee on Industry, then in Committee on Human rights and freedoms as Vice-Chairman..

On the First Congress of the USSR People's Deputies became a member of Inter-regional deputy group – the first democratic parliamentary opposition in USSR, worked with Andrei Sakharov, Boris Yeltsin, Anatoly Sobchak, Vasil Bykov.

In 1990 was one of the founders of the United Democratic Party of Belarus (UDPB) - the first opposition political party registered in Belarus.

1991-1995 - Chairman of the UDPB.

In 1995 the UDPB affiliated with the Civil Party - United civil party (UCP) was built. In 1995 elected as Vice-Chairman of the UCP. In the same year on the elections to the Supreme Council of Belarus were held, UCP has created a parliament a faction "Civil action". Alexander Dabravolski was elected as MP to the Supreme Council and has headed Subcommittee on Mass-media.In 1996 was a representative of MP group in Constitutional Court for impeachment of President Lukashenko.

In 2001 – Deputy Chairman of Headquarters of United Opposition Single Candidate to Presidency Vladimir Goncharik, in 2006 – Deputy Chairman of Headquarters of United Opposition Single Candidate to Presidency Alexander Milinkevich. In March, 2006 was arrested as organizer of protest actions against falsification of elections and was in detention for 10 days.

Since 2007 – Member of Presidium of Political Council of United Democratic Forces of Belarus.

Sinse 2007 – Chairman of the Board, since 2008 – Director of East European School of Political Studies (Project of Council of Europe).

Married. Wife is a teacher. Son is a student, daughter studies in secondary school.
