"Panopea zelandica" is a large species of marine bivalve mollusc in the family Hiatellidae.

Distribution

This species is endemic to New Zealand.

Habitat

"Panopea zelandica" is found in shallow water, off sandy beaches.

hell description

The shell is large, elongate-cylindrical, gaping at both ends especially posteriorly. The surface is irregularly concentrically currugated.

Coloration is white to pale orange-brown externally and white within.

Height is up to 68.5 mm, width up to 121 mm, and thickness 52 mm.
