Pete Saunders is an English keyboard player, born in 1960.

In 1976 he started performing with a Birmingham Pub Theatre company called Pub Theatre. In 1978 he answered an advert in his local newspaper to join a “new wave" band, Dexys Midnight Runners, with whom he stayed until 1979, and subsequently returned to in 1980, for the writing and recording of Searching for the Young Soul Rebels [http://www.dexys.org/id13.html] , which peaked in the UK charts at #6. In 1979 he moved to London and took up van driving, to earn a living, whilst playing keyboards where and when he could. This included a single with Arthur Bilingsley who had Robin Bibi as his guitarist, some gigs with Auntie Pus who had Dave Ruffey on drums. He also found himself doing some dates with The Damned, for instance The Lyceum for their 5th birthday.

At about this time he joined a band called The Decorators who were recording an album for Island, however, the album was never released. Decorators were on the same record label as singer Carmel, and after hearing her single Bad Day on the radio, Saunders talked to the record company and told them he wanted to play with her. After an audition in Manchester he found himself playing on her first album. At the same time as playing with Carmel, he was also playing keyboard for Serious Drinking, which he describes on his website as some of the best fun he's ever had.

Between 1982 and 1987, he played keyboards in Jake Burns and the Big Wheel and when that finished due to Burns reforming Stiff Little Fingers he gave up music.

He started running his own decorating company, and about this time the Jive Aces invited him to an audition which resulted in tours to France Germany and Switzerland with them before he left.

After he left the Jive Aces he started playing some dinner jazz and gigs with The Fallen Heroes until in 1999 he formed his own band The New Originals.

As of 2008, Pete Saunders is performing with a variety of bands, including The Fat Tuesdays, SHH, with Barbara Snow and Claire Hirst and Bob's Big Bad Boogie Band. He also plays solo gigs. [http://www.petesaunders.co.uk/id86.htm]
