General Information

Chiampa Radio (also known as WEED Radio) is a listener-supported with a primary format of rock, metal, punk, and alternative internet radio station provided via Nullsoft SHOUTcast. Chiampa Radio also hosts a talk radio format during pre-determined time slots in which listeners can call the station and participate in discussions on-air with the hosts.

The station’s slogan is "Toke up and tune in!" and is run from Tampa, Florida, USA.

The target audience of Chiampa Radio is the marijuana Drug subculture.

History

Chiampa Radio was originally started as "Indiana WEED Radio" in 2003 between two friends. The station's primary format was talk radio, and was off-air when the hosts were not broadcasting.

On April 1, 2007, one of the operators moved from LaPorte, Indiana to Tampa, Florida and continued to maintain the station. Because "Indiana WEED Radio" no longer fit the station's geographic location, the station's name was changed to "Chiampa Radio" to match the station's new geographic locations and is made up of a combination of the cities Chicago, Illinois and Tampa, Florida; which are the two cities in which the two station operators reside and broadcast from. The station still only broadcasted it's talk radio shows, and was off-line all other times.

In an effort to evolve, Chiampa Radio began to broadcast music 24/7 on June 26th, 2008 at exactly 16:16:16 Eastern Standard Time. The determined format was a mixture of rock, metal, punk, and alternative genres performed by artists local to Chicago and Tampa that were unsigned by record labels. This business model was determined to be beneficial to both Chiampa and the local artists because it would allow Chiampa Radio to broadcast selected genres of music in exchange for promotion of local bands. Neither Chiampa Radio or the artists are compensated for air-time or promotional broadcasts.

Official Format

Chiampa Radio broadcasts in three formats: music, news, and talk radio.

*Music is the primary format, and accounts for most of the broadcasted format.

*News, provided by the USA Radio network, is broadcasted at three specific time points during the hour:
** Top of the Hour News
** News Break at 20 minutes after each hour, also known as "It's somewhere"
** Sports Break at 20 minutes till the top of the hour.

*Talk radio is the third format of the station.

Affiliation

Chiampa Radio entered an affiliation agreement with the USA Radio Network on July 3, 2008. Part of the affiliation agreement provides Chiampa radio with news feeds directly from the USA Radio Network.
