Gustav Huguenin (
July 17 ,1840 - 1920) was a Swissinternist andpathologist who was a native ofKrauchthal .He studied medicine at the Universities of Zürich, Prague, Vienna and
Berlin , and in 1864 received his doctorate. As a student he had as instructors, physicians such asneurologist Wilhelm Griesinger (1817-1868),surgeon Theodor Billroth (1829-1894) and internistMichael Anton Biermer (1827-1892). In 1867 he wasprivat-docent atZürich , and in 1873 succeededBernhard von Gudden (1824-1886) as director of theBurghölzli Psychiatric Hospital. From 1874 to 1883 he was a professor ofinternal medicine at the University of Zürich. In 1883 he resigned his position at Zürich for health reasons.Huguenin specialized in research of
nervous diseases andtuberculosis , and contributed treatises onencephalitis ,meningitis , et al toHugo von Ziemssen 's "Handbuch der Speciellen Pathologie und Therapie". Other written works of his include:
