Charles Christopher Watts

Charles Chrisopher Watts was born in 1877 and died in July 1958 was an Anglican Bishop.

Education

He was educated at Shrewsbury School and he graduated from Corpus Christi College, Cambridge in 1899 and was ordained priest in 1900.

He was a curate at St. Mark's, Noel Park, London from 1900 - 1907.

Career

He was appointed priest-in-charge of Mbabane in the diocese of Zululand, and headmaster of St. Mark's European School until 1920, and St. Mark's Coloured School until 1927.

From 1917 he was also Canon of St. Peter's Cathedral, Vryheid, KwaZulu-Natal, and from 1918 Archdeacon of Swaziland.

In 1927 he returned to St. Mark's, Noel Park, London as Vicar until 1929.

In 1930 he became warden of Zonnebloem College, Cape Town.

On 11 June 1931 he was consecrated Bishop of St. Helena.

In 1935 he was translated as second Lord Bishop to Damaraland.

He resigned his diocese in December 1938, and returned to live in South Africa.

Family

He married Magdalene Beatrice Adams in 1930.
