kibbutz in northernIsrael . Located near the intersection of the Israeli, Syrian and Lebanese border, it falls under the jurisdiction ofUpper Galilee Regional Council . In 2006 it had a population of 277.The village was established on
11 March 1947 on the land of the formermoshav Hamara , which had been abandoned following the Tel Hai incident in 1920. The founders were members of three kvutzot who had met during their training inKfar Giladi ;Palmach trainees who were former members of theHaTenua HaMeuhedet youth movement, American HaBonim members who were Ma'apilim (illegal immigrants of theAliyah Bet ), and members of the "Hayilim-Haultzim" (Soldiers-Pioneers)gar'in made up ofSouth Africa ns who had met whilst fighting in theBritish Army duringWorld War II .
