The Troy Tones are a co-ed a cappella group at the University of Southern California. Founded in 2002 by Joshua Epstein, Megan Densmore, and Adam Westbrook, the group has competed and placed in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella and USC's Absolut A Cappella contest. The group currently performs around USC and the Los Angeles area.

History

2002-2003

The Troy Tones were founded in August 2002 [ [http://www.dailytrojan.com/media/paper679/previousarchive/V147/N49/01-cappela.49d.shtml "USC's Acapella Explosion"] , "Daily Trojan", November 4, 2002] by three Sophomores, Joshua Epstein, Megan Densmore, and Adam Westbrook. The first core group consisted of nine members, who conducted the group's first retreat that December at Lake Arrowhead. The first concert, held at the Von Kleinschmidt Center on USC's University Park Campus, consisted of four songs: "Kryptonite", "Foolish Games", "Mad World", and the infamous but short-lived "This is How We Rock", all original arrangements by group members.

In the Spring, the group held a second round of auditions, and came under the musical direction of Michael Simkin, and added several new members, before concluding the year with a final concert. This concert debuted several songs which would become Troy Tones staples in the years to come, including Kiss the Girl and I'll Be There. The concert also marked the departure of group founder Joshua Epstein, who left USC to join the Army.
