Modern watercolours

Modern watercolours

In the last half of the 20th century there was a new interest in watercolour painting led mainly by German and Austrian painters. Painters such as Kurt Moldovan, W Thony and later G Salzman and B Vogel, all Austrians, presented lively modern paintings influenced by German Expressionism. Elsewhere a few painters were using watercolour to make bold modern images, David Remfry in London, Simon Fletcher in France. This upsurge in interest was in part due to a new generation of bold permanent colours but also to the influence of American painting and post war expressionism.
