Krasnaya Gorka (Красная Горка meaning red Hill) is a
coastal artillery fortress west ofLomonosov, Russia on the southern shore of theGulf of Finland , oppositeKotlin Island and theBaltic Fleet 's base atKronshtadt . The nearest settlement is Lebyazhye (Лебяжье)History
The fort was established in the 18th Century and substantialy modernised in the Late 19th / Early 20th century with the installation of 12 inch guns in concrete casemates. There is an outlying fort called "Seraiya Loshad" (Grey Horse) containing smaller guns. During the
Russian Civil War it helped defend the city ofPetrograd . In 1919 the garrisons mutinied against the Bolshevik regime but this revolt was surpresed by the Reds. Later in 1919 the forts were unsuccessfully attacked by theRoyal Navy during theBritish Campaign in the Baltic 1918-19 and were bombarded by HMS Erebus. In 1921 the guns of the fort bombarded Kronstadt during theKronstadt rebellion . During World War 2 the fort played a vital part in defending theSeige of Leningrad and maintaining the Oranienbaum Bridgehead. The fort was decommissioned in 1960 and partially demolishedReference
