Concave Holdings Ltd is based in Toronto, Canada. The company is globally oriented with a principal office in Manchester UK, executive office in Toronto, and locations in the US. The first application of the firm was the 2008 Concave PT1 football boot.
Research and development was carried out for 8 years, mainly in Australia, and as of August 2009, the boot was on general sale in the UK, USA and Canada.
The Concave design increases the 'sweet spot' (the area of the boot that makes contact with the ball) by over 400% as opposed to a standard football boot. Independent testing has shown the boot produces 15% increased power and 30% improved accuracy.
The boot is being backed by former Scottish International striker and Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish who first became aware of the boot's potential whilst managing Blackburn Rovers.
Concave liken their revolutionary new boot to the advent of the Callaway Big Bertha golf club of the large head Prince tennis racket. Concave also designed this new boot to protect the metatarsal bones.[1] The upper of the boot contains a flexible layer of TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) and reinforced cushioning foam composite ‘MetaGuard’.[2]
The boot is worn by Danny Webber of Portsmouth and John O'Shea of Manchester United who wore the Concave PT+ boots for the first time during the Premier League game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Wes Brown, who too plays for Manchester United, was also seen wearing Concave boots in a friendly against the Kansas City Wizards whilst on tour in the U.S. during Manchester Uniteds preseason preparations in July of 2010[3]
