The Clock Incident

The Clock Incident is an infamous incident that refers to Game 4 of the 1994 NBA Western Conference Finals between the Houston Rockets and the Utah Jazz, where in the final 13.5 seconds of the game, the Jazz timekeeper didn't start the clock for 8 seconds. Despite the extra 8 seconds, the Jazz never capitalized in the extra time that was given as the Rockets defense held on to win over the Jazz 80-78 and took a 3-1 lead and eventually won the 1994 NBA Championship.

The incident

With the 13.5 seconds remaining in Game 4, the Rockets were up by 2 points over the Jazz. The Jazz have possession of the ball. Tom Chambers inbounds the ball into Jeff Hornacek. As play resumed, the Utah Jazz timekeeper didn't start the clock as the Jazz were trying to look for an open shot. After 8 seconds, the timekeeper started the clock as Chambers attempted a shot. Chambers missed the shot and there was a mad scramble for the ball that would go to the hands of Robert Horry who passed it to Vernon Maxwell as the Rockets took out the time remaining and win the game 80-78.
