UniversalGiving™ is a San Francisco based 501(c)(3) search engine of vetted opportunities for international donating and volunteering.

History

UniversalGiving™ was founded by Pamela Hawley in 2002. By 2008, UniversalGiving™ has been featured in the Christian Science Monitor, the New York Times [ [http://www.nytimes.com/2006/12/21/fashion/21charity.html?pagewanted=2] ] , the Financial Times [ [http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/d30561a2-d907-11dc-8b22-0000779fd2ac.html?nclick_check=1] ] , LA Times [ [http://www.latimes.com/travel/la-tr-responsible4feb04,1,1559348,full.story] ] , CNN Money [ [http://money.cnn.com/2007/10/15/lifestyle/world_wildlife_fund_gifts/?postversion=2007101612] ] , and the United Nations Report. Awards include a Silver W3 Award winner [ [http://www.w3award.com/webapp/winners/show/silver/2/U] ] , a Webbie Award [ [http://www.webbyawards.com/webbys/current_honorees.php?media_id=96&category_id=47&season=10] ] nominee, and a Tech Awards nominee [http://www.techawards.org/] . Over $1.2 in donations have passed through and over 8,000 volunteers have been matched.

Operations

To appear on www.UniversalGiving.org [http://www.UniversalGiving.org] , nonprofits must pass through UniversalGiving’s Quality Model™. The Quality Model™ is a ten step process vetting international organizations online. The site currently offers over 1,000 ways to give and volunteer internationally.

Corporate Organization

In 2004, UniversalGiving™ launched UniversalGiving™ Corporate (UGC). UGC is centered around the idea of Corporate Social Responsibility. Current clients of UniversalGiving™ Corporate include Cisco and BEA Systems.
