The Class D II (old) of the Royal Bavarian State Railways ("Königlich Bayerische Staatsbahn") was a small tank locomotive with two coupled axles. It is not to be confused with the D II built much later (from 1898) which had three coupled axles and later became the DRG Class 89.60.

The older D II was built by in 1873 Krauss for short lines with a light trackbed. Four engines were delivered with the names: "GEIER, STRAUSS, FUCHS" and "BÄR". They were the smallest standard gauge locomotives in the Bavarian State Railways and were employed on a wide variety of duties. In the 1880s, "BÄR", was deployed to the "Vizinalbahn" branch line from Immenstadt to Sonthofen in the Alps, which had been opened in 1873, and "STRAUSS" was used on the line from Siegelsdorf to Langenzenn, to be joined later by the other engines.

An excellent 1:10 model of "BÄR" is displayed in the Nuremberg Transport Museum.
