Taddeo Barberini

Taddeo Barberini

Taddeo Barberini was born in 1603 as nephew of Pope Urban VIII. It is this uncle that gave him the title of 'Prince of Palestina' and made him commander of the papal army.

At 14 october 1627 he married Anna Colonna, daughter of Don Filippo Colonna. After the death of his uncle in 1644 he is forced to flee to Paris where he dies in 1647 without ever seeing Rome again.

Taddeo and Carlo Maratta

It was Taddeo' secretary, Don Corintio Benicampi, who accomanied the young Maratta to Rome in 1636.

Later would the well-known Baroque artist get one of his first assignments, that of the 'The Glory of Saints', from Barberini. The painting would be finished in 1645, two years before Barberini's dead.
