Georges J. M. Meekers (1965 - ) is a Belgian wine writer and educator.

Biography

Georges Meekers was educated in Belgium at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, and later graduated from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel as M.A. Int. Affairs.Born in Sint-Truiden, Belgium, he speaks fluent Dutch and French besides English. He now lives in Malta.

Wine Career

In the 1990s Meekers became involved in wine writing and education. He entertained a wine column for the liberal Maltese newspaper Malta Today. He continues to contribute to The Times (Malta) and several international wine trade magazines, such as Harpers Magazine [Harpers Vintage Wine And Spirit Directory, 2005,6,7] , with vintage reports on Malta and other upcoming wine regions. He is also the author of the only reference book on the country's wine industry and may be regarded as an authority on Maltese wines [ [http://luxuryexperience.com/destinations/europe/gozo_and_malta.html Luxury Experience Meets Wine Expert Georges Meekers] ] . Outside Malta, Meekers is perhaps best known for his role as school director of Wine Campus, the wine school that he founded and heads. Being fluent in several languages, he gets invited as a keynote public speaker at international wine trade conferences (such as the First Israeli Wine Fair, 2005). Meekers is head of sales at Emmanuel Delicata Winemaker. As a wine educator and taster, wine professional Georges Meekers is becoming recognised for his original take on wine which is similar to the scientific approach to cooking by Englishman Heston Blumenthal often referred to as molecular gastronomy [Wine Minds, The Malta Independent, 16 March 2008] .
