- Tokyo Rugby Club
The Yokohama Rugby Club [http://www.tokyorugbyclub.com] ground and clubhouse are located near Tokyo in Japan. YC&AC (Yokohama Country & Athletic Club)is Japan's oldest sports Club and came into being in 1868. In 1900 the club played the first recorded game of rugby in Japan, against Keio University. The result of that match is not known, but the scores from the following years' games show a sharp progression from a comfortable YCAC win in 1901 to a narrow 6-4 victory only six years later.
Since 1903 till the present day, the club has also played an annual fixture (the "Interport" game) against the KR&AC(Kobe Regatta & Athletic Club), this fixture has been fiercely contested over the years. Like all other sports, rugby almost ceased before, during and after the war, though the YC&AC and KR&AC managed to play their Interport up until 1941.
The rugby section is now one of the YCAC's most active. We field two teams almost every weekend during the season(October thru till April), as well as hosting the popular over-35's and All Japan YCAC 7's tournaments. The 7's is a JRFU-sponsored event which has features Top League tems and top international players like Graeme Bachop, Jamie Joseph and Willie Offengauhe. On April 6th 2008 the 50th All Japan YC&AC 7's tournament was held and for the first time ever the host team(YC&AC) won the Cup. See related article at this link [2] . Included in the YC&AC squad was the world's most famous 7's player Waisale Serevi
