Truman National Security Project

Truman National Security Project

The Truman National Security Project is a national security leadership institute based in Washington, D.C. that recruits, trains, and positions progressives throughout the United States. The organization was named after President Harry S. Truman, because it is the belief of the organization that " [Truman's] vision transformed a moment of unprecedented threat into an era of unimagined opportunity and prosperity." Truman Project programs

The Truman National Security Project has several programs to encourage progressive activists to strengthen their national security background. They range in duration from one-day trainings to fellowships that last a year.

Truman Security Fellowship

The one-year Truman Security Fellowship offers training in national security, access to a network of peers and leaders across the country, and assistance with obtaining positions of national security leadership around the country.

Congressional Security Scholars Program

The Congressional Security Scholars Program provides progressive staffers with deep national security training and an on-going community network across the Senate and House. This training and educational program is intended to give junior staffers on Capitol Hill a broad base of knowledge of progressive national security thought. The program provides instruction in national security policy issues, the progressive security worldview, communication techniques, and other key skills.

National Security Bootcamps

Truman National Security Bootcamps are one-day trainings tailored to states and localities. They provide progressive leaders with the foundations of national security understanding, and training in talking about tough issues.

The basic bootcamp has six segments:

* The Progressive National Security Story: Our History and Values
* National Security at Home: Making it Local
* Military 101 with Recent Veterans: Understanding the U.S. Armed Forces, Their Culture, and How to Connect With Our Troops
