Vedhagiri Vedha = Veda(Sanskrithttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanskrit वेद, véda, "knowledge and giri गिरि means "mountain")is a place in the district of Kottayam, Kerala, India. The place is famous for the ashram (monastery) of the Hindu guru (teacher) Vedhavyasa http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devan%C4%81gar%C4%AB. It is believed that the pandavas http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mah%C4%81bh%C4%81rata visited the vyasa during there exile life. Remnants of the monastery are seen on the top of a small hill called vedhagirimala. Followers of Hindu religion visits the place and pray for there forefathers at the temple (Sri Dharma Shastha Kshethram)and have a snanam (holy bath) at the pond near the temple.Kottayam Textiles (Kerala government owned spinning mill) KSE Ltd. (cattle feed factory) and various other small scale industries are running on and around the vedhagiri hill. Government UP school is the educational institution in vedhagiri. SNDP Grumandhiram is the place of worship for Sri Narayana Guru's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guru followers (Eezhavashttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ezhava). St. Mary's Church Vedhagiri, St. Mathew's Church, Kottakkupuram and St. Stephen's Church, Kurumulloor are the christian churches. The Mahatma Gandhi University Kottayam, the famous Ettumanoor Temple and Athirampuzha Church are within 5 kilometers from Vedhagiri.There are several Public and Private bus services running through vedhagiri. Ettumanoor railway station in 3 kilometers from Vedhagiri.
