- Glogovac monastery
Monastery Glogovac is dedicated to
Saint George . It is located near village of Babici, municipality ofŠipovo . It is only monastery of Serbian Orthodox Church built in this area. First time it was destroyed 1463 when this region was occupied by Ottoman Turks.Omer-paša Latas [http://www.camo.ch/latas.htm] started reconstructing this monastery by building church in 1867. Bishop Dionisije Milijević put this church in function in 1869. According to one of the stories enslaved Serbs asked from Turkish Sultan to allow them to re-build this holly place. Permission was granted under condition that church bells are not heard. Glogovac is focal spiritual point for this area. Seventy five years after monastery was re-built it was destroyed again. This time by the ustaše and this happened on October 14th 1944. Around 1960 monastery was sufficiently re-build to be used as parish church. 1999 complete reconstruction was started and it was finished in [http://www.nezavisne.com/dnevne/dogadjaji/dog06272005-03.php] 2005. Left of the main building works on building St. George’s camp started. Another project underway is finishing building for pilgrims.
